Last year I made my sister-in-law, Cathy, a Family Cookbook for Christmas. We had many family gatherings last year that resulted in a new favorite recipe. Cathy and I love to try new things and I have to say that most of the time they come out pretty tasty! We have also canned many items over the years. Around canning time, it never failed that we were missing last years notes. Putting all of our favorite recipes and tips in one book was very helpful.
The hardest part of this project was gathering the recipes! I had to sneak into Cathy’s recipe stash and make photo copies without her noticing! I then typed up the recipes using one of the photo sites online. There are so many to choose from and I usually use the place with the best deal. Pick out a photobook size; I used the 8.5″x11″. Then pick out a template and your backgrounds. You can also take a picture and use that as a background. I did this with our canned goods.
What I did was put one recipe on each page. I also had a canning tips page. To make the book even more personal, I added pictures of our children and family at all of the gatherings throughout the year. The fonts and colors can also be adjusted.

The nice thing about using a photo service online is that you can work on your book over time. Just save your project and you can make changes. It took me a couple of weeks to make the cookbook; it took time to hijack the recipes and I worked on it a little at a time.
In the end I ordered a smaller size of the Family Cookbook for me as well. It is so nice to have a photo memory of our favorite recipes! It will also be nice to hand down over the years. Cathy also loved receiving the Family Cookbook as a gift. I know she will treasure it for years!
